What's it like?
From London to Inverness, we go further for our customers. So we need people willing to go that extra mile (or hundred) too. If you have the talent, we offer a first class ticket to success. Maybe even a complimentary beverage on the way.
We’re very picky about who works for LNER. So when you wear the LNER uniform, you have to be at the top of your game. Our customers expect the very best service and we expect you to deliver it.
In return, you’ll receive a competitive salary. Oh, and throw in a benefits package traditionally described as ‘generous’. And you can hop on our trains for free.
Our Values
Our values are what makes us tick. They make us LNER from ticket to track.
We put our heart into everyone’s journey and here’s how we do it.
- Bring Passion
We go beyond. Always. Bringing the very best of LNER to our passengers. Faster trains, quicker times, smoother journeys and a high five when we make it even better. - Be Bold
We’re not afraid to do things differently. If there’s a better way, we find it. Powering on, we don’t shy from awkward conversations. We make it happen. - Always Care
We listen to and look after everyone. We know every journey matters; be it as a customer or as a member of our team. So it matters to us. - Own it
We say what we’ll do, then we do it. We’re setting the pace. We know you want progress and we’re on it, every single day.
Think you fit the bill? Then take a look at our current vacancies. You never know, your dream job could be waiting for you!
Who we are
LNER is the rail company that stepped in and took over the East Coast mainline after Virgin Trains East Coast. We began our journey on Sunday 24 June 2018 and we have ambitious plans to change the face of train travel. We want to create a service everybody loves, that our people are proud to work for and helps the communities that we’re part of, to flourish.
We kept our promise to maintain a seamless transition between old and new. While doing that, we launched the future of rail travel, with our new Azuma train. It’s already a great success, introducing more seats, more space and above all, punctuality.
Whether you’re nipping to your auntie’s for cake and a cuppa, braving a meeting with the boss or treating the kids to a day of candy floss and sandy toes. We’re with you. Making it happen. Connecting towns and cities, people and places with pride.
Everything we do at LNER is geared towards delivering great experiences for our passengers, our colleagues and our communities.
Together, we’re driving innovation and transforming rail travel. By being on time, having more trains and more seats, to the huge leaps in engineering like our stunning Azuma train.
People, places and moving forward are top of our list. We embrace the communities that we operate in, welcome change and are determined to constantly improve everyone’s travel experience across the nation. Not only that, our team is proud to be part of LNER and because of this, they deliver a great service. A service better than anyone else because they care a little bit more.
That’s what makes us LNER.
What happens next?
We promise we’ll let you know as soon as we can the outcome of your application and/or any testing you do.
If you are successful, you’ll be invited along to an interview or to take part in one of our assessment centres. These can include interview, group exercise, role play, or more tests (we have lots of industry standard tests that help us keep everyone safe!). During these sessions, we’ll get to know more about you and you can also make sure we are right for you – it’s a two-way process!
What do I need to know?
We’ll make it really clear what our plans are at your interview or assessment centre, so you’ll arrive fully prepared. We’re not going to question you within an inch of your life, we’re going to let you do the talking and show us what skills, knowledge and experience you bring to the table.
For many of our roles, your behaviours and personality are just as important, so we want to provide as relaxing an environment as possible, so we get to see the real potential in you.
If you’re unsure about anything, you can contact a member of our friendly People Resourcing Team to find out more.
How do I prepare?
Just be yourself! You know your stuff – we’ve already seen some of that in your application – so be prepared to talk us through some of your amazing achievements, focussing on those relevant to the role and which make you stand out from the rest of our candidates.
More generally, it’s the usual things that will make a difference on the day.
- Get a good night’s sleep the night before – arrive fresh and full of energy.
- Give yourself plenty of time to get to the venue – 10 minutes early is much better than 10 minutes late!
- Dress for the occasion – it’s not always a case of suited and booted but take pride in the way you look and arrive clean, tidy and smart.
- Don’t forget to bring along your essential documents (to prove your right to work in the UK – you’ll receive full details with your invite to the interview/assessment centre).
- Bring along any additional notes, memory sticks etc that you’ll need on the day – again, you’ll have been given full details about this with your invite if it’s needed.
- Above all, relax and take some deep breaths – we’re a fun company to work for and our recruitment methods reflect this... you might just end up enjoying yourself!!
Time for the good news...
We won’t delay in getting in touch – after all, if we’ve got vacancies to fill and have identified some great new talent, we’ll want to get you started as soon as possible.
And don’t worry if you didn’t make it, we love to help you understand why and will provide lots of feedback to help you with any future applications.
...and a medical!!
Yes – that’s right. We’re a safety conscious business so if you’re joining us, you’ll need to have a medical and Drugs Screening before joining us! Our friendly and expert in-house Health & Wellbeing team are on hand to get you booked in at a time and location to suit you. The sooner, the better is how we like it, so please be as flexible as possible with your availability.
And finally!
Subject to a satisfactory medical result, we’ll finalise any last details and look forward to you joining the team ready to join one of our induction programmes.
